Of (mince) pies and platonic (relationships)

The UK is always giving me (culture) lessons every now and then. You see, the hospital I study in has a M&S Simply Food branch which I enjoy visiting just to stare at the variety of food. I hardly buy anything from there.. just look and salivate. The other day, I saw nicely boxed mince pie on the shelves. The packaging looked so Chrismasy and I was so tempted to make a purchase because it says “mince”.. I thought it was mince meat, you see.. furthermore, Carrots my friend told me how she misses mince pie from Mr Kipling’s and M&S.
I was so tempted to buy! I kept telling Rach my next door girl about this mince pie yada yada.. as if I knew so much about it. Today, Rach brought home some for me.
Guess what.
It wasn’t mince meat inside. It was some really sweet stuffs. Apparently, ‘mincemeat’ means a preserve typically containing apple, dried fruits such as raisins and sultanas, spices, and either suet or vegetable shortening. Quite disappointing at the fact that it didn’t contain meat.
On another unrelated matter, I realised that platonic relationships really do exist. Painfully exist, I believe. I used to think it is very possible and common, but I guess everyone has to enjoy a mince pie once in a blue moon.
It is 1am. I just increased my HDL and now ready for bed. There went my 1 hour gym session!
