Ba gua.. rou gan.. whatever!
Ba gua is hokkien. Rou gan is mandarin. In BM, it is known as daging salai.
So, the Noisette told me that it is possible to make. I was quite amazed.. so we actually ended up making it at my place a few days ago!

I am so impressed at the result that we decided to give some to the monkey (to find out that he went to Rome!!!) to sample. Have yet to hear any feedback though.
I am so, so proud of myself! I never knew you could really make your own ba gua/rou gan/daging salai. I know the first house neighbour made hers every CNY. She even told us the process of making.. and we all shook our heads thinking.. “Wah, so troublesome.. I might as well buy from the shop!”
But hey.
It is actually possible! And not too difficult, too. Just need an oven and a grill. I can’t wait to make it when I go back home… yippie!!! Can make full use of cheap gas, why not? And possibly reduced-sugar ba gua/rou gan/daging salai for the parents and the dogs!
YUMS!!
